Nature

The Woods as a Child

You explore a forest with the wonder and scale of a child, rediscovering the magic in the small details of nature.

You are small again in a forest that is much bigger, and the only task here is to walk on the moss and look up at the canopy. The track is not a straight line and the light comes through the leaves in patches.

This session spends its time on the detail of bark and ferns and the feeling of being safe in the undergrowth.

You stand in a forest where the trees feel taller and the ground is closer. This is a place of small discoveries and moss, where nothing is expected of you other than to look at what is right in front of you.

The air smells of damp earth and green leaves, and there is nowhere else you are supposed to be.

What’s in it

A forest to explore as a child, where everything is a discovery, and every detail is full of wonder.

Why do it

Returning to a childhood perspective uses the natural curiosity of a child to distract the mind and open the senses to new experiences.

Why going here does anything

A forest explored with the scale of a child gives the mind a series of simple things to notice, and noticing small details leaves very little room for anything else.

This walk spends its time on the wonder of a single leaf or the pattern of bark. It is not about getting anywhere, but about seeing what is here.
